Following the cyberattack carried out around noon last Monday, visitors attempting to access the website were greeted with the message: "You have been hacked, and your commanders must admit they train people to be sent to their deaths."
Although officials stated that no information was stolen during the attack, the Syrian Electronic Army (SEA) claimed responsibility through Twitter and shared a screenshot of the compromised U.S. Army website.
This was far from the first high-profile cyber operation conducted by the Syrian Electronic Army. Over the years, the group has targeted numerous international organizations, institutions, and U.S. government agencies, demonstrating its capabilities and sending a warning through a series of high-profile website breaches.
As cyberattacks have become an increasingly significant challenge in the 21st century, then-U.S. President Barack Obama placed greater emphasis on cybersecurity, cybercrime prevention, and the development of stronger digital defense systems to protect the country's critical infrastructure.
