   Despite global interventions, the number of orphans and street children continues to rise because interventions usually treat the symptoms rather than the systemic root causes like economic inflation, geopolitical conflict, rapid urbanization, and family breakdown. Global organizations like UNICEF and the Consortium for Street Children point out that while aid programs provide short-term food or shelter, they cannot keep pace with the massive global forces driving children from their homes. 

   The critical gap between intervention efforts and the growing crisis stems from several core drivers:

   1. Structural and Economic Shifts

   Poverty and Inflation: Rising living costs force impoverished families to send children to work on the streets to supplement income.
   Rapid Urbanization: Rural families migrate to cities, often ending up in urban slums without social safety nets or stable employment.
   Systemic Inequality: Free-market policies and a lack of government social protection programs leave the poorest families highly vulnerable. 

   2. Escalating Global Crises

   Geopolitical Conflicts: Wars in regions like the Middle East, Eastern Europe, and Sub-Saharan Africa leave millions of children orphaned or displaced.
   Climate Change and Natural Disasters: Floods, severe droughts, and landslides destroy rural livelihoods and kill parents, pushing children into urban centers.
   Health Pandemics: The long-term generational fallout of HIV/AIDS and the COVID-19 pandemic permanently disrupted millions of family structures. 

   3. Family Dynamics and Systemic Failures

   Domestic Violence and Abuse: Many street-connected children are not actually orphans; they run away to escape physical, emotional, or sexual abuse at home. 
   Family Disintegration: High rates of divorce, parental abandonment, and the weakening of traditional extended family support networks leave children exposed. [1, 2]
   Deficit in Prevention: Most global funding is directed toward reactive measures (orphanages and street feeding centers) instead of proactive measures (family preservation and parental mental health support).
